And how many times during that same 90 days did you find yourself giving value to other people that never turned into anything valuable for you?
I found myself in that situation not that long ago.
I was giving HUGE value to other people, helping them build their businesses but not getting paid for it and not building any wealth for myself and my family despite spending quite a bit of my time do it.
It was beyond frustrating.
I had some success in my business, and before I knew it, at every event I attended, every mastermind group I went to, every time I spoke, went to a dinner, or even checked messages on my social media accounts or email, I would get swamped with people wanting to “pick my brain” and ask me for my advice, and for the most part, if I could help or offer a solution, I would…
But, as I helped people and gave them advice on how to do some of the things I had found success doing, I noticed something…
The people I helped would come back and ask me the same questions again and again.
It turns out they were ASKING for help, but they didn’t VALUE the advice that I gave them enough to IMPLEMENT it.
So, they just came back asking the same questions over and over.…
Not only was it frustrating that they were ignoring my advice and not getting the benefit from following it, I found that I was spending way too much time trying to help people.
I’m very naturally a giving person at heart, and I’m guessing that you are, too. We want to help people succeed in any way we can.
But a few years back, as I sat reviewing my goals for the coming year, I realized that something had to change.
There was no way I had the time to hit my goals if I kept doing what I was doing. There simply weren’t enough hours in the day.
And clearly my objective of offering advice and helping other people with the idea that they would then want to retain me and pay for my knowledge and advice or offer me ownership in their business in exchange for my help wasn’t working either.
One of my hopes in giving advice to others was that somehow that would turn into a working relationship or partnership, either through some paid consulting engagement or them giving me ownership in their companies in exchange for my help.
But that just wasn’t happening. Almost none of the people I helped turned into paying clients or “equity” deals.
They were happy to hear my advice and then go off and do their own thing.
It just wasn’t working for me. Does this sound familiar?
Do you find yourself giving advice, making introductions, sharing your connections, creating proposals, pitching deals or otherwise sharing your knowledge, skills, experience and network with others but having very little to nothing to show for it in terms of money or wealth?
That’s EXACTLY where I was.
I wanted to continue to help people, but I couldn’t allow them to keep taking up my time without my investment in them turning into something positive for BOTH of us.
Most of us live our lives trying to help others in this ONE-WAY relationship of giving for free hoping to get something back in return.
The problem with that is that unless you ASK, unless you create the opportunity for other people to INVEST in you helping them, in most cases it just won’t even occur to them.
What you need is to create a way to have a TWO-WAY relationship, where you AND the people you help give value back and forth to each other.
So, I was thinking about all this, setting my goals for the coming year and THAT’S WHEN IT HIT ME!
Free has NO VALUE.
When people make no investment in themselves and the advice that you give them, they simply do not value it. And that means they’re never going to follow it.
Worse still, they’re going to feel comfortable taking up your time, asking you questions, asking you to connect them to other people, all without ever even giving a thought to how valuable what you are giving is, or how valuable your time is.
I realized that if I wanted to change my life, change my income, hit my financial goals of wealth, I needed to make a SERIOUS CHANGE in how I dealt with all this advice giving.
So, I decided that the very next time someone asked me for advice, no matter when or where, I would tell them that the way I do that is through them making an $18k investment for a half-day of my time, which would allow us to meet in person or virtually for up to 4 hours.
That was it. If they wanted to move forward they just had to let me know and I would send them a 1-page consulting agreement and wire instructions, and if not that was okay too…
And What Happened Next Was Shocking…
Without hesitation, they immediately wired me $18,000 for a 4-hour consultation. Keep in mind, this is the same type of message that, in the past, I had answered hundreds of times just giving advice for free with nothing in return.
In the past, I would have answered his questions and then just hoped that something would come from it, but because I followed my new plan and system, he wired me money that day!
In the following 18 months, I raised my fee from $18k to $25k, reduced initial meetings from 4 hours to 2 hours, and generated over 7-figures of consulting income and 8-figures of equity ownership in several businesses using this exact approach.
I call this strategy “Consulting For Equity” or CFE, and it is absolutely magical in its ability to transform your business and your life, creating both active and passive income as well as wealth.
Keep in mind this is not some “get rich quick” scheme. It takes a lot of hard work, but it’s working smart, which means that you get tremendous leverage from the work you do.
When you are doing CFE, you’re sharing your knowledge, skill, experience, and connections with other people.
GENERATING IMMEDIATE CONSULTING INCOME
Immediate Income: You start with a paid consult, where you share the same information that you would maybe have given away for free before you learn this system.
GENERATING ACTIVE + PASSIVE INCOME
Medium-Term Income: Next, you move into completing certain things that you agree on with your client, and in exchange for you completing those things, you receive ownership in their business which is called “equity.” As the business makes profits and distributes them, you receive income. While you are rendering services to the business, this is considered “active” income because you have to do something to receive it.
But, once you have performed the services you agreed on, the income from your ownership interest in your client becomes “passive” because you completed the services and now are just receiving ownership distributions.
The great thing about CFE is that it scales infinitely because it does not require you to work forever to receive continuing payments. Once you complete your services to your client, you get paid FOREVER. FOR LIFE.
CREATING LONG-TERM WEALTH
Long-Term Wealth: As you complete more and more CFE deals, your distributions, and therefore your income, stack and accumulate, building an ever-increasing string of cash distributions.
And not only that, because you have ownership in the businesses you worked with, when those businesses sell, you will also receive a portion of the sales proceeds!
CFE provides 3-types of income. Immediate. Short-Term. Long-term.
CFE provides active AND passive income. Active while you render the services you provide to your clients. Passive once those services are done.
The CFE strategy continues to generate 7 figures in consulting fees for me every year and millions in ownership in many different businesses.
